Their candid stories gently but firmly unravel the myth of state-sponsored gender equality, revealing instead a landscape of contradictions, tender, raw, and unmistakably human.

A landmark of East German cinema, Winter Adé stands today as both a portrait of a country on the cusp of collapse and a tribute to the women whose strength carried it, questioned it, and outlasted it.
